Wholesale Greeting Cards – An eBay Gold Mine

One of the questions I hear most from people starting their own eBay business is, where do I find products to sell and what type of products do I want to sell. I tell them that usually depends on personal preference, but there are literally tons of wholesale items out there and tons of companies to acquire them from.

Over the years one of the best revenue producing items for me has been Wholesale Greeting Cards. They have traditionally been very easy to get a hold of and are always in demand. From greeting card companies that have overstock and want to get rid of them cheap, to companies that specialize in the sale of bulk lot Wholesale Greeting Cards. I mean come on, who doesn’t like getting a nice greeting card?

I set up an eBay store specializing in Wholesale Greeting Cards, list my greeting cards as a bulk lot, and bingo, sells in 3 days every time! Literally making me an extra 500 to 700 dollars a week, and I don’t have to do any shipping! Now you might be asking yourself, can I do this with other products as well? Heck yea you can! You could sell wholesale craft supplies, baby clothes, silk flowers, beauty products, the possibilities are endless! To top it all off, most will even drop ship for you!

Finding the right wholesaler will be your toughest task. But never fear! It is not as hard as you might think.

Here are some things to look for when researching wholesalers:

- Make sure the supplier is pre-screened by an independent 3rd party company. I can’t stress this one enough people. No one likes to get scammed.

- Decide if you are going to have them drop ship for you. Trust me, you will want this. So make sure they ship with a reliable company. Also remember to check for international shipping. A big plus.

- Make sure they have low or no minimum order quantities. Not everyone has the purchasing power of a retail giant.

- Good phone support is a must as well. It doesn’t have to be 24/7, but its important when you need them they are fast and reliable.

- Finally, pick suppliers that have a lot of different products. This is the best way to find new ideas to market, and the products are just a click away.

Make Greetings Cards For Fun and Profit

There seem to be an ever increasing number of occasions when a greeting card is appropriate. Not so many years ago greetings cards were mainly restricted to Christmas and birthdays but now there almost seems to be a card for every occasion. Just as the number of cards increases so does the public demand for something just a little bit different.

This can provide an opportunity for anyone with a little artistic flair to build a simple home business producing their own hand made greetings cards. It is not hard to make a greetings card which is going to stand out from the mass produced items available in card and gift shops.

It is a good idea to decide at the beginning exactly what style of cards you want to produce. If you can become known for a specific type of card that is easily recognised as your work then this can help establish your reputation in your local area.

You will need some basic items such as card and possibly some applique. If you visit your local magazine store you will find several craft magazines with adverts for card making materials. In some magazines you will also find useful articles on card making as well. Your local library should also have books on the subject.

One big mistake many card makers are guilty of is that they never sit down and actually work out the cost of their materials. Many consider that it is a hobby as much as a business but even so you do want to make a profit from your efforts. You should also decide how much profit you want to make from each card.

There are two main methods for selling the cards that you make. The first is by approaching local card and gift shops and offering them your cards to sell. Realistically very few will buy your cards; however, some may be willing to take them on sale of return. This means that you leave some stock with them and then return after say a month and they will pay you for any they have sold. Obviously they will expect a percentage of the sale price as their profit.

Blending Card Making and Scrap Booking Techniques – Have You Tried It?

I don’t know about you, but I used to think I needed to keep my scrapbooking supplies separate from my stamping supplies, and vice versa. I had a craft bag for stamping and card making projects and a craft bag for scrapbooking projects. I wanted to be sure my photos were scrapped with archival quality materials only to ensure their long and undamaged life. Many stamping supplies were not photo safe a few years ago but that is no longer so true.

These days, many stamping supplies are billed as acid free, though I am still wary of those that are not lignin free and buffered when it comes to using them around my photos.

I think the main thing is to isolate your photos from materials that may not be archival but there is no reason you cannot use them on the pages themselves.

Many cardmaking techniques can be beautifully adapted to scrapbooking. For example, you have probably already used embossing (both dry and heat embossing) on a scrapbook layout. Making borders, special embellishments and dry embossing around a special photo mat are just a couple of ways you could use this technique.

Faux metal embellishments also look very special on an album page. I find people are usually very impressed when they see these images!

If you have ever made inchies or twinchies, you have probably already thought of moving beyond a card face to use them as album accents. ATCs can also be used in a layout.

Iris folding can look wonderful as an enhancement to photos and you can even make a whole scene with iris folding to complement a special event.

You can make your own stamped embellishments also by stamping and colouring an image, then cutting it out to be included in your scrapbook. I’ve seen some beautiful stamped butterflies on acetate lately that have really lifted a layout (or a card, for that matter!)

Add additional journalling space by making a little card to attach to your page. Sometimes I have even added mini books to a layout that needs lots of journalling.

Try rows of paper piercing to make borders, embellish photo mats, and make other special embellishments come alive on your pages.

Once you start thinking about it, most techniques for card making can also be used for making scrapbooking pages. If you have not already tried it, I hope I have inspired you to blend your techniques together in new ways.

If you have a knack for creativity and saving pictures, then you should consider the art and fun of scrapbooking. For example, a first birthday would probably have only a few pictures depicting newborn, 3 months, 6 months then the birthday. The first birthday theme would have more pictures and sentiments from the party or something that is memorable for the first year of the child. The possibilities and ideas are endless. Just let your creativity flow. You can’t go wrong. The whole purpose of scrapbooking is to preserve important memories in which you wish to keep and remember for years to come.

As you can see, scrapbooking does take some work and organization. However, it is a fun activity to do with the family and kids. Or even as a gift for a loved one. Just let your creativity run wild. Each scrapbook is different, and can tell a story. Your story. You can’t go wrong. Just be sure to have the necessary scrapbooking supplies on hand, to be sure your task is started and completed with ease. As you advance and become more involved, you will soon realize scrapbooking is a very fun hobby. And hard to put down.
